Contracts or one-time jobs
iiOn a contract or just once
We do lawns on a contract or as a one-time job. A contract is regular mowing and upkeep through the season. One-time is the yard that got away from you, a house getting ready to sell, or a cleanup after a storm.
iiiSod, laid when it will take
Bermudagrass is the lawn grass you see all over Oklahoma, and OSU Extension lists it as a full-sun grass. Their calendar puts the best window for establishing a bermuda lawn at April through June. For the shady spots under trees, OSU points to tall fescue, which handles light shade better. Bixby, just south of Tulsa, is still a sod-growing center, and bermuda is the usual crop on its river bottom fields.
ivMowing height matters more than people think
OSU’s rule for warm-season grasses like bermuda is a summer cut of about 2 to 3 inches, and never more than a third of the blade at one time. Cutting too low in a hot spell scalps the yard and dries it out. Tall fescue gets left taller, around 3 to 4 inches.
vMulch, beds, leaves and snow
Fresh mulch and cleaned-up beds are the quick way to make a yard look kept. In the fall we do leaf removal, and in winter, snow. In Tulsa, yard waste tied in bundles about 4 by 2 feet or in clear bags goes out with regular trash, up to 15 extra bags or bundles a week. Past that, we haul it.
